A simple Shulker Tooltip mod will allow you to fully and conveniently see the contents of the box of the shalker when it is in your inventory. Now when you hover over it with a mouse you will see a window in which the contents will be displayed like a normal inventory. The game also indicates the contents of the box, but there is a limit on 5 items, as well as information issued in text form.

- Without unpacking copy to .minecraft\mods
