Softer Hay Bales Mod will add to Minecraft 1.18.1/1.12.2 a haystack to the game, falling on which you will not take any damage. Now, in order to descend from a great height, you need only one moment, just like in Assassin’s Creed game. It is enough to lay some hay on the place of the intended landing and jump.
If you fall from a great height, then it is worth making a platform of hay with a large radius so as not to miss.
