Linked storage mod will add to Minecraft 1.17.1/1.15.2 a new storage system much better and more convenient. This system allows you to connect to storage channels. You can set the storage channel in your linked storage to use the 3-pad dye over the linked storage. With 16 different dyes and 3 pads on Linked Storage, the mod will have up to 4096 different storage channels.

So what are storage channels for? Associated storage with the same storage channel will use the same chest. You can imagine that each storage channel is a separate Enderchest.
As for portable storage, it is portable linked storage. You can also use dye on Handheld Storage to customize its storage channel. The system is very user-friendly and opens up a lot of new storage spaces!
